Mark Ronson feat Amy Winehouse: 'Valerie'
Find a few classic pop tracks. Find a few classic pop singers. Add a cheap production sheen, some cheeky high hats, and a perky brass section over the top. It's not the toughest job in the world is it? Yet somehow, Mark Ronson does all this with enough chutzpah and unbridled enthusiasm to keep fooling us that he's some kind of musical genius. To credit him with the delights of this new single would be like thanking Courtney Love for the Nirvana back catalogue. I'm sure they both had some influence over proceedings, but if we're being honest, they both probably just got in the way.

Amy Winehouse is the real star here, back on the sparkling vocal form that shined so brightly on Back In Black before all the red top froth, druggy excess rumours, and barnet-obsessing took over. The fact that the Zutons' original was one of the most superb singles in recent memory shouldn't be forgotten either as we shuffle along with the finger-snapping beat, shuffling drums and funky trumpet toots. So enjoy your toe-tapping and head-bobbing but remember who the real stars are here.
