Octave-conquering voice? Check. Hugo Boss ad campaign cheekbones? Affirmative. Intriguingly exotic parentage? Well, his mother was born in Montserrat, while his father hails from Calcutta, so the answer can only be a resounding ‘you betcha!’. On paper, David Jordan is just what the glamour-starved world of British boy-pop has been waiting for.

Fortunately, his debut single 'Place In My Heart' doesn't flatter to deceive. An epic slice of soul-pop, on which the Barnet boy delivers a government-bashing rant over an instantly memorable piano riff, it's big, bold and flashy enough to seize our full attention. Steve Lipson's bombastic, grandstanding production seems designed to please label boss Trevor Horn – literally everything here is cranked up to eleven – but Jordan's supple falsetto manages to fight its way to the top of the mix. The irresistible conclusion? A star is born.
