As anyone who caught her recent mentoring spot on The X Factor will know, Celine Dion has spent a bit too long in Vegas. After being introduced as the world's best-selling female artist – a title Madge, Mazza and Babs would be well within their rights to query – she proceeded to tell every single contestant that they had a "beautiful gift" while smiling manically and swishing around her Lassie-style barnet as though she'd just landed a L'Oreal ad. At times, it almost felt like we were watching American Idol.
Still, with her half-decade Caesars Palace residence drawing to a close next month, the whippet-thin trilling machine has sensibly returned to the recording studio. 'Taking Chances' begins in surprisingly restrained fashion, with Dion crooning softly over a near-acoustic musical backdrop, but the soft rock bombast kicks in soon enough. The guitars surge tastefully; the drums thump like they belong on a Phil Collins solo record and Dion plays the banshee to perfection. This is going to be absolutely massive in Germany.

Celine's best songs are pop/rock. Her "attempts" to be cool are the most hilarious and most charming things about her. Celine Dion is the shiznitt. She is undisputably the Queen of Perfection & Purity in the music business. NO ONE can match her gorgeous voice. Whitney Houston may have given Celine Dion a run for the money, but Celine & Whitney have definitely made different choices in life. Result: Celine is still GORGEOUS and at the top of her game. Whitney: not so much. "Taking Chances" is kind of a big tease, though. It is only a TASTE of what Celine Dion could become, if she really let go and embraced rock n' roll. Celine Dion - for better or worse - is the most insulated person in the music industry, thanks to her 100yr old husband. She's a golden bird in a gilded cage, and he makes damn sure that he holds every key. I wish Celine every happiness, but the mind reels at what amazing music she could make if she had TOTAL artistic freedom, if you catch my drift.

She gets a real rough time does old Celine... Facts and money accumulation speak for themselves! Girls and Boys this was the best tenner i've spent in a long time ( US 20 bucks)...

I love Celine and her music, but I'm disappointed with this new single - it doesn't stand out from anything else out there. As for being the biggest selling female artist, you should also check Nana Mouskouri's stats which say that she is the biggest selling female artist with sales 300 million plus...

This song plays constantly on the Muzak at work, and makes me want to head for the exit every time! Just because she's Celine Dion should NOT be a license to screech high above the top of her vocal range. Makes me think her producer fell asleep at the control panel! Anyone else agree?
