At last! It's about time someone realised that the B-52's were (are?) a thrillingly innovative, idiosyncratic musical force, and Alphabeat have made the most of their eureka moment. 'Fantastic Six', their debut UK single, suggests the Danish sextet might have perfected the same grab-bag approach towards pop songwriting as their beehive-sporting heroes. Either way, it's time to slip into your dancing shoes.

The array of pop culture references that 'Fantastic Six' crams into its three-and-a-half minutes is simply dazzling – 'Drive My Car', Wham!, 'Uptown Girl', Major Tom and Sesame Street are in all there, among many others – but the myriad influences are twisted into such unexpected shapes, lurching off in such strange directions, that the final product sounds effortlessly original. On the one hand it's a bit like High School Musical as imagined by the Hoxton crowd; on the other, it might just be the ballsiest pop song since 'Biology'.
