Babyshambles: 'You Talk'

It might upset the tabloid contingent to hear it, but Pete Doherty seems to have a firmish grip on his career at the moment. After the top ten success of recent single 'Delivery', Babyshambles released Shotter's Nation, their sophomore album, to widespread critical acclaim, and Doherty has even announced plans for a solo album. Honestly, if Amy Winehouse gives up the booze any time soon, The Sun really will be in trouble.

'You Talk', Shotter's Nation' second single, is a disarmingly competent indie nugget, all jangly riffs, stop-start Kinksy pop hooks and keening, yelped vocals from the boy Peter. Sadly, its only moment of intrigue comes in working out who came up with this lyrical pearl: "I never, ever said it was clever, I just like getting leathered." Ladies and gentlemen, there are two names on the songwriting credits: one, P. Doherty and, two, K. Moss.
