J. Holiday: 'Bed'
Pop spat alert! US songwriter Terius 'The-Dream' Nash considered giving this tune to R'n'B star Chris Brown, but eventually offered it to newcomer J. Holiday instead. Brown, as you can imagine, had an almighty humph when Holiday took it into the US top five a few weeks ago.

Was the song worth all the palaver? In short, no. Though it benefits from the same gargantuan percussion and supersized synths as 'Umbrella', Nash's other big chart-botherer, 'Bed' is little more than a tarted-up nineties R'n'B smoochathon. Holiday homages Rihanna's infamous "ay-ay-ay"s towards the climax, but it's not enough to save the day. 'Bed' isn't so much an 'Umbrella' as that crumpled copy of the Metro you pop on your head before dashing to the bus stop in the rain.
