Connie Talbot: 'Over The Rainbow'
There's something inherently wrong about awarding a star rating to a seven-year-old. Connie Talbot, the gap-toothed schoolgirl from Walsall who came second on Britain's Got Talent earlier this year, should be singing for enjoyment at choir club, family gatherings and the occasional school assembly. Record sales and the decidedly adult concept of musical merit should have nothing to do with it.

But yet, after she charmed ten million ITV1 viewers on the Talent finale, it was pretty much inevitable that the glint-eyed hucksters would come a-knocking. Somewhat disturbingly, Talbot released Over The Rainbow, her debut album, last week, and its title track has been primed as a Christmas-friendly spin-off single. The schoolgirl has a sweet, pure voice for sure – one that's more powerful than her tiny frame would suggest – but there's no nuance or depth to her performance. Then again, why should there be? We'll look forward to hearing what she can do in a decade or so.

Well, I'm just an ole uneducated county boy; But I disagree with your rating with every fiber of my being. Connie's singing is unique; In a class by itself. Perhaps you have have lost the perspective to really listen with a pure heart and ear. Connie is a gift from heaven with a God-given talent . I am so thrilled that Connie and her parents are sharing her special blessing with the rest of the world. Obviously, It is not just my opinion since she has sold over 250,000 albums worldwide so far. She has only just begun. I am proud to be a Connie fan.

I totally agree with the REVIEW and the REVIEW gets 5 stars. AS for young miss Talbot, well very good for a six year old, but on the other hand I don't usually play songs sung by a 6 year old. Her voice isn't great, and why would it be she's 6 for pitty sake! Only those more interested in cheese an smaltz would buy this record. I can see the embarrasment factor when in conversation with someone. " What's your musical taste".... "Well I like Connie Talbot".......Oh dear!

I disagree with the review and agree with the other comments. I haven't bought the cd yet as I can't find it in stores here at present. I've listened to the tracks on You Tube and think for a just turned 7 year old she does a fantastic job. She has a sweet, pure voice and can only improve as she grows.

No I do not agree with your review. Connie puts many to shame who are currently in the charts. She, as a seven year old, may be of raw talent. She needs encouragement to use her beautiful talent to the best of her ability, not being critised because of her age. Well done Connie, look forward to your next album. Bought this one 8th Dec.

I got the CD yesterday, I like it. The rating is for the review, not the music. If Connie Talbot was a violin or piano prodigy nobody would say she shouldn't perform in public or she should work for free. On the muisical merits she seems to be unique. She performs with a quality of musicianship and interpretation, in the unmistakable sound of a 6 year old, that put's her in a class by herself. There are very good boy and girl voices working today or in the recent past but they are twice Connie's age and make a different sound. Should they be banned too? Say goodbye to Libra boys choir then and throw away those Billy Gilman CDs. Connie has a trust fund for schooling now. Perhaps she would retire if you gave her some of yours. In the mean time she's #35 on the UK album chart, the youngest artist to ever do that. I've heard 100,000 copies shipped. Maybe there is musical merit you've overlooked? Now review the abum on its merits, same as any other artist presenting their work. Connie wasn't intimidated by Simon Cowell. Give it your best shot.
