The Days: 'Evil Girls' (EP)
The Days are a mop-haired indie four-piece with an ear for a proper pop chorus, an inability to write songs that aren't about particularly bothersome young ladies and a lead singer called Luke. So far, so Kooks, right? Well, yes, but these Devon scallywags - brothers Luke and Dan Simpkin and their mates Harry Meads and Tim Ayers, formal introduction fans – are much more than bandwagon-jumping jangle-pop copycats.

Evil Girls, their debut EP, is brimming with more musical ideas than the well-thumbed notepad stuffed in Macca's top pocket. 'The Days' has a chorus you feel you've known forever; 'Kate' is a lovely lighters-aloft ballad about a doomed love affair and 'Give It Away' is bolstered by a surprisingly tough, Stonesy guitar riff. The Days aren't afraid to throw caution to the wind, either, rudely interrupting the sprightly strut of the title track with a lethargic, reggae-tinged middle 8. And those bothersome young ladies better watch their backs: "I don't need a bloody fake like you," Simpkin seethes on 'Give It Away'. Ah, the joys of being young and in love...
