The Hoosiers: 'Worst Case Scenario'

'The Trick To Life' LP

For those who found 'Worried About Ray' and 'Goodbye Mr. A' a tad too kooky for their own good, The Hoosiers' new single should prove more palatable. The Anglo-Swede trio classify their cartoony musical outpourings as something called "odd-pop", but 'Worst Case Scenario' leans more heavily on the latter than the former.

A jagged, angular indie workout, it would stray into Razorlight territory if it weren't for the frantic drum beat, which conjures up memories of 'Walking On Sunshine'. Best of all, there's something deliciously cheeky about a song this exuberant concerning itself with the humdrum existence of a self-willed pessimist. "You got out the wrong side of bed and liked it," spits frontman Irwin Sparkes. "The only love you get is unrequited." Hmm. Somewhere out there, we wonder if Morrissey is listening?
