The Wombats: 'Moving To New York'
The rest of us might be feeling a tad lethargic after the over-indulgence of the festive period, but, as ever, Scouse trio the Wombats are raring to go. 'Moving To New York', the latest single from their Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation album, has more energy than a hyperactive five-year-old who's just discovered mummy's secret stash of Red Bull.

As frontman Matthew Murphy recounts the effects of seven days of hedonism ("I put one foot forward and ended up thirty yards back, am I losing touch or am I just completely off the track?"), the band's full throttle guitar attack becomes increasingly unhinged, with spooky harmonies and a nice bit of feedback jiggery-pokery that recreates the sound of the TARDIS taking off pushing 'New York' towards its killer chorus. Like all the best indie-pop whipper-snappers, the Wombats make you feel exhilarated and a little bit past it all at the same time.
