Jack Johnson: 'If I Had Eyes'
To his fans, Jack Johnson makes music as summery and relaxing as a stroll along the beach on a balmy July evening. To the naysayers, his brand of MOR acoustic pop is only marginally better than James Blunt's musical meanderings. 'If I Had Eyes', the lead single from his upcoming Sleep Through The Static album, won't impel either party to revise their opinions.

Light, melodic and as homely as a record by a man whose last album sold 15 million copies can be - a few of the session musos are credited, a tad self-consciously, with "oohs" - it's his most immediate moment to date. Though its lyrics deal quite starkly with the end of a relationship, you'd never guess it if you didn't speak English. For those who are suffering from Fleetwood Mac withdrawal symptoms at present, 'If I Had Eyes' will be a much-needed nicotine patch.
