Rascal Flatts: 'What Hurts The Most'

'Me And My Gang' LP

The history of 'What Hurts The Most' is as complicated and confusing as Russell Brand's sex life. Originally recorded by country singer Mark Wills in 2003, it first became a "hit" two years later, when S Club survivor-turned-CBB pariah Jo O'Meara ushered it into the UK top 20. Country trio Rascal Flatts turned it into a stateside smash in 2006, before, as we all know, Cascada's insatiable appetite for a ready-made, anthemic chorus took hold. Phew… are you still with us?

Now, barely a month after the Cascada version skimmed the UK top ten, Rascal Flatts have decided to inflict their 'What Hurts The Most' upon us. With its chest-beating earnestness and slick, MOR production – it even features that good ole Nashville production device known as a "drum loop" – it isn't a million miles away from the O'Meara version. The upshot of this? None of us needs to hear 'What Hurts The Most' again, but a lot of us are going to want to.
