Envy & Other Sins: 'Highness'

MobileAct Unsigned created its fair share of nauseating TV moments. There was Jo Whiley telling any band of interest that they probably wouldn't get played on her radio show, Polydor's Simon Gavin doing his best Simon Cowell impression and coming across like a man who hasn't listened to any new music since 1987, and Alex Zane, being, well, Alex Zane. Yet, in spite of its faults, the show seems to have uncovered a gem in the shape of indie oddballers Envy & Other Sins.

Rightful winners over the boorish, arrogant Revenue in the show's final, Envy make the sort of addictive, jangly guitar tunes that usually get NME salivating and Zane Lowe going all hyper in the Evening Session studios. With the jagged art-rock sensibilities of Franz Ferdinand and an ear for a catchy pop tune in the manner of early Supergrass, 'Highness' shows that this band deserve far more than jibes about being the indie equivalent of Leona Lewis.
