Amy MacDonald: 'Run'
The quiet success of Amy MacDonald pretty much epitomises the expression "slow burn". Three singles of varying success down the line, and with precious little media hype, the Scottish lass took advantage of the New Year's sales lull to score a belated number one with This Is Her Life, her six-month-old debut album. Its UK sales to date? An impressive 500,000.

'Run', the album's fourth single, finds MacDonald veering (elegantly) towards Snow Patrol territory. Thanks to some suitably grandiose production, this teary-eyed soft rock nugget swells and soars in all the right places, making it her most appealing moment yet. In fact, when she wraps her warm Celtic tones around the anthemic chorus, vowing to "love until there's nothing more to live for", it's easy to see why so many have been seduced.
