Beth Rowley: 'Oh My Life'
Peru-born, Bristol-raised Beth Rowley is the latest hotly-tipped songbird to be vying for our attention. Like Adele, Duffy and, of course, Amy Winehouse, her sound is unashamedly retro, but, unlike her peers, heartache and navel-gazing don't seem to be on the agenda.

Instead, 'Oh My Life' is a breezy, brassy pop song, as pleasant as it is inconsequential. Rowley has a strong, supple voice, but this single's too slight to raise her above the hordes of Winehouse-alikes we'll be encountering this year. In fact, with its finger-clicking beat, soggy production and noodly sax solo, it could be the theme to a square 1970s sitcom. Sadly, Rowley didn't ask June Whitfield to appear in the video.
