Foals: 'Cassius'
Foals couldn't be much cooler right now if they were wrapped up in frozen peas and shipped to the Antarctic on an iceberg. The correct mixture of slanty haircuts, smarmy attitude ("We play guitar in a different way from pretty much any other mainstream indie band") and bouncy art-rock hooks has seen the band tipped for big, big things. If Adele's bringing the drinks and Duffy's making the sandwiches at the '2008 Party', then Foals are supposed to be providing the entertainment.

New single 'Cassius' partially justifies the hype, with its amalgamation of saucy saxophone and drilling riffs proving a toe-tapping success. It's perhaps a little too similar to recent singles 'Balloons' and 'Mathletics' to be praised too highly, while the deliberately obscure lyrics ("Cassius is over! Cassius away! Cassius these daydreams, these daydreams okay!") are, let's be honest, nonsense. However, the spiky attitude and innovative edge of the Oxford five-piece still shines through - it's enough to keep us excited about their debut album Antidotes for another couple of weeks.

I like this song, although I thought they were singing 'Cassius these daydreams, daydreams are gay!'
