Mystery Jets: 'Young Love'
Mystery Jets were a bit too odd to be taken seriously on their 2006 debut, Making Dens. With their unhealthy fascination with prog rock, and one of their dads on guitar duty, they had many indie fans rushing for cover behind their Razorlight safety blankets. However, with new single 'Young Love', the band have ditched the prog waffle, replaced the old fella with the rather fetching Laura Marling and crafted a bona fide smash.

Based around Marling and Blaine Harrison's wistful tales of a night-stand, it features a fabulous array of edgy, alluring lyrics. Despite Blaine's amusing recollection: "Is that you on the bus? Is that you on the train? You wrote your number on my hand. And it came off in the rain," Marling's seductive and sardonic responses win out, as she croons: "You don't need eyes to see if someone's got a heart of glass." Boasting sublime harmonies and the sort of bouncy bassline The Kooks would mug their own mums for, it should turn Mystery Jets from indie oddities into chart sensations.
