Mariah Carey: 'Touch My Body'

After staging a fairly astonishing comeback with 2005's The Emancipation of Mimi, an album that launched two US number one singles and sold ten million copies worldwide, who can blame Mariah Carey for sticking to a winning formula? 'Touch My Body', the trailer single from album number eleven, E=MC˛, rides the same silky-smooth, mid-tempo vibe as Mimi's best moments.

Over a simple, hypnotic keyboard riff and finger-click beats, Carey makes her moves on a boy who's got her "temperature through the roof", sighing and purring like a lustful kitten. This being the age of the internet sex scandal, her advances come with a proviso: "If that's a camera up in here, then I better not catch this flick on YouTube." Though 'Touch My Body' initially seems rather slight, its cooing, sensual charms soon take hold, suggesting the wind's still very much behind the Carey comeback bandwagon.
