Yael Naim: 'New Soul'
If 'New Soul' hadn't been chosen - by Apple CEO Steve Jobs himself, if the PR line is to be believed - for the MacBook Air advert, Yael Naim would probably have remained an obscurity. Well, how many alumni of the Israel Air Force Orchestra go on to become popstars, eh?

With its rinky-dink piano riff, jaunty brass parps and "la la la" chorus, not to mention Naim's Linguaphone-indebted pronunciation and simple, optimistic lyrics, 'New Soul' is a charmingly ingenuous pop song. In fact, so soothing are its gentle, folky tones, it could even make something state-of-the art and inherently commercial - the world's thinnest laptop, say - seem homely and unthreatening. Nice choice, Steve.
