Roisin Murphy: 'You Know Me Better'

Despite being younger than Kylie and owning cooler popstar moves than Lily Allen, Roisin Murphy appears destined to wallow in cultish obscurity. Her two solo albums, Ruby Blue and Overpowered, have earned plenty of critical acclaim, but her brand of sleek, modern electronica is just a little too off-kilter and edgy to win mainstream approval. New single 'You Know Me Better' is just as sparkling as previous efforts 'Let Me Know' and 'Overpowered', but will probably get the same treatment from the UK public: a gentle shrug of the shoulders and a number 28 chart placing.

Groove Armada's Andy Cato is on production duties here, laying down a squelching disco groove that veers between early 90's house and the sound of New Order's 'Blue Monday' being fiddled with by the Human League. A typically sultry Murphy more than rises to the occasion, delivering the crisp, soothing vocals that earned Moloko a flash of chart success at the start of the decade. Proof, if any was needed, that record sales don't always equate to class.
