However, thanks to someone - her label? her (ex) manager? Britney herself? - the music continues to enthrall. Following on from 'Gimme More' and 'Piece of Me', 'Break The Ice' is her third cutting edge pop gem in a row. Over a steely, spookily atmospheric electro-R&B groove, crafted by Timbaland's right hand man Danja, she implores some hapless lad to drop his romantic guard. "I'm-a hit defrost on ya," RoboBritney coos, "Let's get it blazin'". Given all she's been through over the last 18 months, it's pretty comforting to know that some things never change.

I have to take a star off, sorry, I know, because no one's really sure she knows she's releasing this song. I more than hope she isn't because I reckon it would be a right laugh to see her stare blankly and go "wha..?". Rumours aside of her inability to sing anymore this is an amazing dance song. Progressive in all the right ways for commercial pop music, Britney simply dazzles. I'm quite happy to forget she had a career pre-Blackout because this is one storming mother-of-a club track.

"Hasn't bothered to shoot a video"?! Bit harsh - she'd have had to shoot it January-ish when she was in and out of hospital!! As for the song, absolutely amazing piece of cool pop, innovative, and deserving of a top 5 spot!

Kate Nash didn't do a video for 'Merry Happy' but you don't go on at her do you! Anyway the track is brilliant and the animated video is great.
