Ashlee Simpson: 'Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)'
It's never been easy to take Ashlee Simpson seriously. Having originally styled herself as an edgier, punkier alternative to her Barbie Doll sister, she went on to dye her hair blonde, have a nose job and get engaged to a popstar. Now, with her usual Avril-style angst-pop falling out of fashion, she's decided to hitch herself to the latest pop trend: Timbaland.

Against the odds, 'Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)' is a bit of a triumph: not the Timbaland-by-numbers club confection we might have expected, but the sound of eighties new wave buffed and polished for 2008. Impressively, the song's jerky hooks and jagged rhythms actually heighten the sense of frustration in Ashlee's lyrics, suggesting she may have located something that a Simpson sister's never had before: artistic vision. Jessica ought to watch - well, listen - and learn.

I must totally admit that Ashlee just rocked my world with this single. It's absoulty star-dust. This single really has to go to #1 in the UK charts. It's really fun, crazy and very different then those we have in the charts.

Certainly very different from her older stuff... but still has her unique edgy style. It's very catchy and a real grower. Should shoot up the charts! I also love the video, very creative and visually wonderful. Almost Gwen Stefani with "What You Waiting For?" Love it.

I like this song too. My friend and I annoy each other by singing the chorus over and over again to each other, at the same time fondly remembering that classic Family Guy moment. Our favourite little pony may not be able to shake from our minds that awful SNL moment but listen Ashlee it was the only reason I took any notice of your music in the first place so be glad!

One of my favourite tunes of the year - should be #1. Better than Timbaland's usual stuff.
