Santogold: 'L.E.S. Artistes'
Philly singer-songwriter Santogold has become cooler than Agyness Deyn's wardrobe over the last few months, earning plaudits from the trendy music mags, the even trendier music blogs and just about everyone who works at Radio 1. Fortunately, her new single 'L.E.S. Artistes' more than justifies the hype.

Though its lyrics bristle with new-to-the-city insecurity ("What am I here for? I left home to disappear is all!"), the way it marries eighties new wave to modern electro is strikingly confident, creating something fresh, vibrant and instantly arresting. Actually, given how impressively it updates the new wave sound, it's tempting to view 'L.E.S. Artistes' as a hipper older sister to Ashlee Simpson's 'Outta My Head' - a song, not coincidentally, that Santogold helped to write.
