Duffy: 'Warwick Avenue'
Duffy appears to be winning the hotly-contested battle to be the "new Amy". Her Rockferry album has comfortably outsold Adele's debut CD and her Northern Soul-tinged single 'Mercy' has been lurking around the business end of the top 40 for over three months. The Welsh girl has undoubtedly won over the public, but questions still linger about her sincerity.

Stingy critics have described Duffy's soulful tones as polished karaoke, pointing to her attempts on the Welsh X Factor to undermine her credibility. Such debates will have to be placed on the back-burner for now, because 'Warwick Avenue', a track cooler than a polar bear's freezer, is probably the finest cut from her debut LP. A laid back, melodramatic slab of '70s soul, it finds Duffy letting rip on a sassy chorus while strings swell behind her in glorious, radio-friendly fashion. A classy affair.

I love this tune. Means a lot to me with the lyrics. Very emotional song. Didnt like mercy but this defiantely tops Duffy Off..Keep the songs coming.

Never thought I'd be a Duffy fan as I don't like her other single mercy, but warwick avenue is enchanting!I think her music video adds to the overall feeling of his song and I cried watching duffy getting emotional in it!

After re-listening to this song I retract my earlier statement. This song is SO much better than Mercy, and for it to be held off of the top spot this week by Rhiana and the Ting Ting's is a crying a shame. This track sounds warm and heartfelt and the deep soulfulness of Duffy's voice lends itself to a throwback 60's style. Think my initial inpression was tarnished by my utter dislike of Mercy, on this record I think Duffy deserves a chance. Video is beautiful also!

Absolutely awe-inspiring song with superb vocals, passion and a great, simple yet captivating video. Cannot fathom Andy's comments about droning and boring and it is absolutely nothing like Mercy!

I didn't really take to mercy, thought it was ok. Warwick Avenue is a blinding tune. It reminds me of the 60s, although I am not old enough to remember them. I would bet this song is at number 1 for weeks and weeks...how can u not be moved by it?

Beautiful, soulful song! Duffy's vocals are perfect for this. I fell in love when I first heard it! I didn't know how she was going to follow up the fabulous hit 'Mercy,' but this single shows that she is here to stay. Love it!
