Sara Bareilles: 'Love Song'

Mariah Carey recently said that female performers are unlikely to be viewed as songwriters "unless you see them behind a piano for the first eight videos that they do". It's a reasonable observation: we're well aware that Alicia Keys pens her own tunes, but less inclined to note that Mariah, Madonna and Beyoncé do too. Sara Bareilles, a singer/songwriter from the brilliantly-named town of Eureka, California, seems well aware of this, showing off her ivory-tinkling skills for most of her new video.

To be fair, if you'd written something as catchy as 'Love Song' - which Bareilles did, and single-handed we might add - you'd want the world to know. Already a top five smash across the pond, this is the sort of song that makes radio programmers leap out of their seats and cry "Yippeeeee!": a bounding piano-pop romp that sounds great while you're waiting for the toast to pop up/driving to work/doing the dishes at the end of the day. If you haven't heard it yet, you will do very soon.
