'Heroes' star turns popstar

You probably know Hayden Panettiere from Heroes. She plays Claire Bennet, the All American gal who's blessed with the power of "rapid cellular regeneration", meaning her finger grows back if she chops it off and her leg heals straight away if she breaks it. It's needlessly gory and all a bit silly, but Hayden's character is generally a lot of fun.

Anyway, having recorded a few songs for film soundtracks in recent years, Hayden's now eyeing up a pop career. She's bagged a record deal with Hollywood Records, the home of Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers and Hilary Duff, and her debut single was premiered on Ryan Seacrest's radio show this morning. You can give it a listen by clicking here.

The good news is that 'Wake Up Call' isn't terrible. The bad news is that it's not very good either. It's a rather forgettable reggae-pop tune that sounds a bit like something from Rihanna's first album and a bit like 'Stars Are Blind' by Paris Hilton. The lyrics, essentially about giving a useless boyfriend a kick up the arse, are a touch more interesting. "I think I'm gonna have to cheat to keep your eyes on me," Hayden sings at one point. Poor Milo, eh?

Thankfully, there is a silver living. Hayden's no Leona, but she can certainly hold a tune and her vocals do show a reasonable amount of personality. Furthermore, she's described her forthcoming debut album as "eclectic", offering hope that it might feature some decent tunes as well as B-list fare like 'Wake Up Call'.

What do you think of 'Wake Up Call'? Can Hayden make it as a singer, or should she stick to acting? Use the space below to have your say.

Like her voice and the song is OK, I guess. I think people should only really judge when they hear her album.

just because you can, doesnt mean you should!

I think she's not a bad singer, but not strong enough to actually survive as one. Stick to saving whales... I only say that because her character annoys the heck out of me.

She has a good voice, but my God! The producer is an idiot. Did they get bored and kept messing with the volume or something? That makes the song sound terrible!

Hayden has sang before on various movie soundtrack and has a fresh style too her. It would be cool if Hayden and Miley could do a duet together. The really fly the flag high for teen girls.
