Alphabeat: Then and now

Published Friday, Jul 18 2008, 17:08 BST | By Nick Levine | 15 comments
This is the original Danish video for 'Boyfriend' by Alphabeat. It's quite rough 'n' ready, but there's definitely a certain charm to it.

And here's the new video Alphabeat have made for the UK release. It's a fair bit glossier, which makes sense given that 'Boyfriend' was sped up and spruced up for the band's UK album. It's also worth noting that lead singer Stine Bramsen seems incapable of looking mean even when she tries - her face is just too pleasant.

We reckon 'Boyfriend' has a decent shot of returning Alphabeat to the top ten after the slightly disappointing chart performance of '10,000 Nights', but what do you think? And which video do you prefer? Just use the space below to leave your comments.

To me the new version seems like a definite improvement. The song has more life, feels more cogent and coherant and has a more interesting structure as well as better production. I also prefer the new video.

Never liked the original found it a bit depressing , but this new version it so good have it on repeat, and totally agree that 10,000 nights should have done just as well as fascination

I really like the album (orignal) version only because of the pre-programmed keyboard backing on the single version. Both videos are cool though, the original has a really cute home made feel. Such a tune and band, really hoping it does well.

Prefer original of both. Why has it been re-produced for the UK?? And 10,000 Nights did not perform badly in the charts....in fact its still in there!

The old one is soooo much better: video and song!
Paul, Manchester, on July 19th, 2008
Prefer the original video, but the more upbeat version of the song, which is also the version they used when they played in Manchester last month.

I love Alphabeat, and I love this song. Much prefer the new version altho I quite like the quirky older video...

The original video and song were much better. This new one sounds more like a Kylie track from the early 90's. Another time when I will be buying the European version of an Album.

The new version is awesome. I had never heard the orginal before now, and it's too slow and a bit joyless. This one is much more fun and cheerful. It's like proper 70's disco with a twist.

loving both versions - just hoping the PWL remix will be released too!
