Jordin Sparks announces next UK single
Published Friday, Aug 8 2008, 19:23 BST | By Nick Levine | 11 comments
We've all known for absolutely ages that 'No Air' by Jordin Sparks is one of the best singles of the year. Now, having spent the last month-and-a-half month in the top five, it's a proper smash too. All Jordin's got to do now is worry about her next single.
Well, brace yourselves, because Jordin and her label have made up their minds. Instead of releasing 'One Step At A Time', her current single in the States, she's going to reissue 'Tattoo', the midtempo Stargate track that cracked the US top ten but stalled at #50 here in April. She's shooting a new video for the UK reissue too - a good move actually, seeing as the original wasn't exactly filled with excitement. You can refresh your memories by hitting play below.
Having given our chin a bit of a stroke on this one, we actually agree with Jordin's decision. As we've said before, nothing on her debut album really compares to 'No Air', but 'Tattoo' is certainly one of the stronger tracks and it deserved better than #50 first time around. With a new, improved video and a bit of help from radio, it could actually do alright for itself. Come to think of it, a shameless publicity stunt from Jordin wouldn't harm its chances either... we wonder how she'd feel about kissing Katy Perry?
Is Jordin right to re-release 'Tattoo'? What do you want from the new video? Use the space below to have your say.

Brilliant move releashing Tattoo as the next single. Gr8 track that should have hit the big time first time round!

It's a smart idea to re-release it. It didn't get enough airplay the first time around. The problem is this song doesn't seem new to me as my local radio station , unline all the big ones and the music channels, took a shine to this song so I heard it rather a lot back in April

Yes, Definitely! I loved this song the first time around and was quite annoyed at the fact that it only reached #50. "One Step at a Time" would have been a bad choice, it would have just been another song to try and follow up "No Air". This song is strong enough to do as well as "No Air" has done and I look forward to hearing this on "Kiss" and "Radio 1" in the future months

aww. One Step is a more convincing single for me. But anyways, I still like Jordin. Tattoo is also a really good song but I think if given the proper promotion or whatsoever it can match the success of No Air or even better.

Def the right idea. I think One Step at A Time is great but too risky for a new artist, it's not smash hit material. She should release Freeze after, Shy Boy or Young and In Love. Oh and for the record, No Air is nowhere near the best song on the CD. Wouldn't even be top 5 for me.

Yeah good move! I loved Tatoo the first time round and would love for it to at least crack the top ten. What do I want from the new video?? Well for a start, I'd like for Jordin to be given a stylist who isn't blind...

The song only reached #50 the first time round for a reason. It was rubbish. It will still be rubbish the second time round, even with a flashier video. The lyrics are dire. She must have been reading the same simile book Fergie was reading when she wrote the classic "I'm gonna miss ya like a child misses its blanket". Classic.

I think re-releasing "Tattoo" is a smart idea, should be a good track for the autumn. "One Step..." is equally just as good so whichever is fine (if they change their minds). However, what really baffles me is the fact "One Step..." is doing well on the Billboard Hot 100 (currently at #31) when Kylie's "All I See" [somewhat] stalled. Both tracks share the same instrumental, probably because they were produced by the same people (Jonas Jeberg & Cutfather). Ohwell!. Anyway, back to Jordin... for the holiday season, Christmas and all that - she should definately release "Freeze". It has a similar sound to Nelly Furtado's "Say It Right" and should do well internationally considering "No Air" has raised her profile.

I love Jordin Sparks! I think her cd has about 7 REALLY GOOD SONGS for me! I love, Worth The Wait, and Next to You, Freeze, Permanent Monday along with No Air, Tattoo, and One Step At A Time! You see, I just love her music!! Oh yes, good move, but what about 'Next To You"?
