Kylie comes good in the end

Published Tuesday, Aug 12 2008, 08:06 BST | By Nick Levine | 40 comments
A couple of weeks ago we lamented the fact that 'The One', the fourth single from Kylie's X album, was about to flop spectacularly. As we wrote it was languishing at #100 on the midweek charts, but it managed to rally a bit as the week went on and eventually climbed to #36 - slightly less embarrassing, but still low enough to make it Kylie's worst performing single ever.

At the time we blamed its disappointing chart performance on two whopping great holes in the release campaign: the lack of a CD single and the lack of a video. Many of you seemed to agree. Well, two weeks to the day that 'The One' was released, the video has finally appeared. It probably didn't take more than a few hours to shoot, and it's not exactly 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' in terms of production values, but all things considered it's quite a nice little video. You can see for yourselves by hitting play below:

What do you think of Kylie's 'The One' video? Is it too little, too late? Use the space below to have your say.

Poor man's Madonna if ever the was one - dreafuld track, not even a cheapo video can save it.

I used to think Kylie was great but i have to say X is boring and this video is rubbish. She needs to learn how to dance or something because all her videos are the same now, just different song.... waving her arms around, looking at the camera side ways, she never moves her feet .... Bored of her now, why doesnt she give it up !! Im sick of hearing about her now !!!

This is one of the most boring an lackluster videos i have ever seen. Its like Kylie has given up the will to live. What is she and EMI playing at. The song is by far the best on the album, and is one of kylie best ever, and yet they treat it like some A side song. Kylie get a grip. Where are the videos like Cant get you out of my head, or slow. Ever since I believe in you video, she has being going down hill. I think cancer has taken its toll in kylies brain, (of which wasnt that big in the first place), rather than her breast.

Kylie- No more "Will Baker" produced videos... PLEASE! I know you're friends with Will, but its time to go in another direction creatively. This video is just as bad as the last Will Baker video for "All I See".
Jim, Leeds, on August 13th, 2008
This, like the All I See video are entirely Kylie and her teams creation, this is because she is about to leave EMI, EMI have shown to her and many of their artists that they havent a clue. Kylie WILL be the next to leave - this video has been made by kylie herself to please her fans only - thanks Kylie!!!! now do one more thing for us this year, dump EMI!!!!!!

It's about time that Kylie and her record company decided to make a video, for what is, a belter of a song. Having a video playing on the Music channels is a good way to get the song heard, even though this is a song that shoudl be played in all the clubs throughout the summer.... I don't think the production value is any better or worse than the video for "I believe in you". It's a good video that was probably made reasonably quickly, but still looks good.

Not the best video Kylie has ever done but frankly a million times better than anything granny madge has ever done. Kylie has nothing to prove, she, unlike madonna OAP is still a star!!!
Nicola, Newcastle, on August 13th, 2008
Not entirely sure I like this version of the song as nuch as the regular album version. On the Madonna front, regardless of what she has sold, she's still an old hag that needs to put some trousers on.

Parlaphone have messed up, same when they didn't release Your Disco Needs You. It was so obvious this could have been the biggest song on the album, a massive number one! This is all do to with men in suits who always try to steer her away from disco camp and make her mainstream pop.
Chris, Liverpool, on August 13th, 2008
I absolutely love Kylie but cannot believe the way 'X' has been marketed. Its been more of a promo album full of 'demo' sounding songs - too much variation in the style of each one. The One is easily the best song on there and probably up there with the best shes ever done! The album should have stuck with this theme... songs like this are where Kylie flourishes most. Even though its not all bad, I could go on slating the album but she will learn from this and come back with a massive record in a couple of years time!
Stephen, Belfast, on August 12th, 2008
This is a great single from kylie and prob has not charted well due to lack of promotion which is the companies fault. btw with reguards to the madonna comparison if not bein as successful as madge means she turns out great albums like X compared to hard candy then im glad:)
Dave, Lancashire, on August 12th, 2008
This is the 'Made In Heaven' video (remember that?) remade for the new millennium! Parlophone have not handled their star act particularly well of late, and the whole debacle surrounding 'The One' should be the final straw. Hopefully Kylie can now find a new record label that can match her aspirations.
Chris, Prestwick, on August 12th, 2008
Oh dear! They've ignored all that made this track great, and just popped a higher BPM on it. Very lazy. The album version has hints of the beautiful and ethereal about it. Kylie's original interpretation of the song sounds haunting and full of yearning. This pap just doesn't do it justice. She looks bored with the whole thing in the video. I don't blame her. Disappointing.
Sarah, Newcastle, on August 12th, 2008
Wow - just Wow! Never heard this song before, and dont usually like Kylie, but there is something really nice about this song - and its so catchy!
Paul, Manchester, on August 12th, 2008
What are Parlophone Records doing??!! Argh! This is one of Kylie's best upbeat dance tracks and remixed by The Freemasons and not forgetting one of the better "X" tracks, so they go and release it as download only and add a promo video too late?!! WHY?? Kylie get a new label...Remember when EMI promoted you everywhere for Light Years come back and even more so with Fever. That's exactly what you need!! Personally I think "Confide in Me" LP 1994 was a favourite and that bombed due to lack of publicity. Kyle's sort it out. Please!!! It's like you don't care anymore... :o(
Sam, Manchester, on August 12th, 2008
this had got to be 1 of the best tracks from the 'x' album why it wasnt released as the first single is a mystery, i mean '2 hearts', what was that all about!? I like the vid for this but i think its a little to late now! Time to move on Kylie a new sound and maybe a new record label!?
Ajay, on August 12th, 2008
Brillant Video!!!! Totally unique to what's currently in the charts. its classy without being dated and sexy without being trashy. Watch artists like Rhianna, Beyonce and Madonna jumping onto the imaging for their next videos. KYLIE IS ALL CLASS!!!
Steven, Poole, on August 12th, 2008
yes probably too little too late. amazing song! great video.. 2 weeks AFTER release date.. first there was to be 2cds... then no cds... no video.. then a video released about 6 weeks too late to tv.. got how much can EMI mess with her! this is one of her best ever singles and its charted at no.36 which is her worst ever charting!!! such a shame but there have been lots of rumours that as EMI cant seem to function and promote an artist anymore like a real record company since bringing in people with no experience at running one and sacking so many of its staff... that kylie may have left them. well i hope she has after the mess they have made of promoting her latest album X and its singles.. they released "in my arms" in hte rest of the eu and "wow"in the uk and swapped them around which killed all the momentum for in my arms in the uk... didnt promote that single either even tohugh it still managed no.10 with a proper cd release... where was the album promo with ïncluding the 3 hit singles.."etc?. NOTHING!.. then this... X has still sold almost 450,000 in the uk and a million worldwidebut EMI have done a really bad job of this album for kylie and i hope she has signed with universal and left them lke the rumours suggest!... "the one" will however always be as fan favourite of hers whatever the chart stats are.. like it has been ever since X was released back in november last year...
Steven, Manchester, on August 12th, 2008
This video is terrible! So cheap, and don't think it is enough to save what is the best song on the X album. Get a grip Kylie!
Robbie, London, on August 12th, 2008
What are her record company doing??? This is about 8 weeks too late. It's like they're trying to finish her. A stomping tune and good vid, but all too little too late. If I were her I'd be dumping the record company and finding one that will give her the support she deserves. These last 3 singles have been excellent yet this last one most people have hardly even heard of. No physical release and no vid til now. Shameful for such a fantastic song!!!
