“ The Sound ”
So, this new Sugababes single then

But, much as 'Girls' has chipped away at the frosty reception we first gave it, we can't say we've warmed to the track fully. Sure, there's plenty of attitude, Keisha's "I'm filled with sexuality..." bit is terrific and it sounds good on the radio, but 'Girls' never slaps you round the face with its brilliance like the best Sugababes tracks. In fact, when you compare it to the lead singles from their previous albums - 'Overload', 'Freak Like Me', 'Hole In The Head', 'Push The Button', 'About You Now' - it feels rather ordinary. Still, it's not out until October 6, so there's plenty of time for it to grow on us some more.
By the way, if you haven't heard 'Girls' yet there's a minute-long clip on the Sugababes' MySpace page, and plenty of reasonable quality radio rips on YouTube.
What do you think of 'Girls'? Will it return Sugababes to the top of the charts? Use the space below to have your say.

It's shocking that they're following up songs like "About You Now" and "Denial" with such an annoying and repetitive track. It sounds like really early demo work before the girls found their sound.

I don't really like it BECAUSE of the "here come the girls" bit. Nothing against the Sugababes though, Its just the Boots thing. Working in a Boots store, hearing THAT all day it does begin to grate on you after the 3rd time!

'twas good - until the blonde one started singing. it just seemed unnatural, especially the 'oohs'. I hope it's a grower, becuse if it's not.....ouch!

When i hear it it makes me think of Boots, not Sugababes! haha! I wonder will the sales in Boots stores increase while the song goes on the airwaves!?

Not liking this one too much - it is a grower, but I agree with the DS Review, it's not got the same impact, especially as About U Now had. I'll look 4ward 2 their album tho - it wouldn't b the 1st time i like their album trax more than the singles.

I think the problem with this record getting a hasty reception is the way they bigged it up. "Remember the first time you heard 'Push The Button', 'Freak Like Me', 'Overload' or 'About You Now'? You'll feel the same about 'Girls'. It is the Babes at their best and one helluva a bad arse single" is what it read in the newsletter. Ignore the fact I laughed my socks off at calling this 'one helluva a bad arse single' it makes out you'll love the first hearing. When I first heard About You Now I knew it would a huge smash so I expected the same initial feeling. Will probably grow though.

I think it's a grower too. The first time I heard it I thought 'oh no, they've done a terrible song' but I listened to it a few more times and it's great but not as good as other things by them.

I listened to it once yesterday and couldn't make it through the entire play. It was really brutal. Maybe it'll grow on me over the coming months but, honestly, I'm disappointed with what the Sugababes have come out with. Where the hell did their creativity go?

No matter what people think of it..the fact is its so catchy, its definately going to be played on the radio a lot and most likely be No.1. I personally think its a great upbeat tune.
