Is Jack and Alicia's Bond theme any good?
Published Thursday, Sep 18 2008, 15:30 BST | By Nick Levine | 46 comments

The fast-parping horns recall John Barry's classic themes from Bond movies past, while the portentous piano chords and scuzzy guitar riffs are a fitting soundtrack for Daniel Craig, a 007 who isn't afraid of getting his hands dirty.
Meanwhile, Jack and Alicia trade lines loaded with menace and intrigue. The rather ominous pay-off? "Someone that you think that you can trust is just another way to die." It's no 'Diamonds Are Forever', but at least this is more interesting than Chris Cornell's drab effort from Casino Royale.
What do you think of 'Another Way To Die'? What's your favourite Bond theme of all-time? Use the space below to have your say.

"Is Jack and Alicia's Bond theme any good?" No.

It is fantastic! Ok, we're all disappointed Winehouse didn't pull it out the bag, maybe next time.. But this is a great substitute: It's raw, it's slick, it ticks all those brassy Bond boxes. I love it! Madonna's was by far the worst EVER.

It's like marmite, you either love it or hate it and I think it's fantastic! Jack and Alicia's voices sound fantastic together and the typical Jack White guitar riff is pure class.

Chunky, dirty and a bit like a much younger sibling to Wings' "Live & Let Die".... Altho, I would've preferred the Winehouse theme better!

I really enjoyed the new bond song, i thought it was a great mix and enjoyed the weird combination of Alicia keys and jack white, Who else would you think do a better job? these days

I like it. I would've preferred it with just Jack White though, I think Alicia Keys pulls the song around too much, and doesn't suit Jack's voice. Those who call it "hip hop" really do not know anything about music, and shame themselves by even mentioning the idea. The same people complaining about this are those who complained about Daniel Craig, and are those who complained about Shatner not being in the new Trek. Get a grip you people.

I personally think this is not a bad song, however not as a Bond theme. I think it is a dreadful choice for a Bond theme. Also, I believe that Bond being British it should be a British artist who sings the song and they had a great choice of amazing British singers but yet they went for this abomination. However, there have been many American artists who have done excellent Bond themes in the past so I am not completely against US singers creating Bond themes.

The Casino Royale theme was excellent, and much closer to a classic Bond theme. This new effort is more like the god awful Die Another Day. They should have gave the job to Shirley Bassey or Elton John. A rap song is no good for a Bond movie.

Its rubbish. The TOP 5 Bond themes are: 1. "Licence To Kill" - Gladys Knight 2. "Goldfinger" - Shirley Bassey 3. "Die Another Day" - Madonna 4. "GoldenEye" - Tina Turner 5. "Nobody Does It Better" - Carly Simon

The instrumental version is better. You Know My Name was far more immediate, a great Bond theme. Another Way To Die feels like what it is, a rushed substitute for Amy Winehouse. Like Madonna's disaster the choice is a mistake.

The song, like the earlier Bond theme songs, reflects the music of the time and remains contemporary. It introduces something new to the series and is an intriguing take. I like it because it isn't your generic Bond song - it's creative and original.

Haha... it's fun to read this thread and see the common agreement about what a sham the new theme song is. The gloves are apparantly coming off against Bond even in the UK! I wonder if people also realize that the producers who thought this was a good Bond theme were the same producers that thought Craig would make a good 007. In that regard I think this sort of musical pap actually fits the ordinary & unspectacular Daniel Craig Bond quite well... let me be the first to whisper that this new emperor has no clothes!

This is dire! I've heard cats being strangled that sounded more tuneful than this tosh. The tune sounds like it's just all of the old ones mixed together and the less said about the singing the better. I'll be stuffing some ear plugs in for the title sequence I think when I go to see this!!!
