The most memorable moment on this week's X Factor - sorry, the second most memorable moment after the randy granny who sang 'Gang Bang' - came from a 19-year-old called Amy Connolly. Warbling her way through Faith Hill's 'There You'll Be', having dedicated her performance to the father who raised her single-handedly, she succeeded in moving Cheryl Cole to tears.

Connolly's performance had quite an effect on record buyers too. 'There You'll Be', which originally peaked at #3 in 2001, is poised to re-enter the top ten on Sunday thanks to a flurry of post-X Factor downloads. Connolly's performance seems to have reminded people that they actually quite liked that touching/treacly power ballad from the Pearl Harbor soundtrack.

Of course, this sort of thing is far from unprecented - Amy Winehouse and Christina Aguilera, among others, enjoyed similar sales boosts during last year's X Factor, while Mint Royale's 'Singin' In The Rain' reached number one in June after George Sampson danced to it on Britain's Got Talent.

But it does go to show, once again, what can happen when nine million ITV1 viewers get to hear your song. No wonder Britney's being lined up for this year's X Factor live shows.
