Notes on Alesha Dixon's new album

We've already been won over by her mambotastic new single, 'The Boy Does Nothing', so we were pretty excited when an Alesha Dixon album sampler landed on our desk earlier this week. Here are our thoughts on the four new songs it contains:

  • 'Breathe Slow' is an impressive, American-sounding electroballad on which Alesha urges ladies never to lose their "compo-oh-oh-oh-sure" in a heated situation. We wonder what she could be talking about?

  • 'Don't Ever Let Me Go' is a midtempo, semi-acoustic shuffler that manages to be sad and romantic at the same time.

  • Alesha's also bagged herself a big, gooey Diane Warren ballad called 'Do You Know The Way It Feels', which she handles very nicely indeed.

  • But the pick of the crop is 'Chasing Ghosts', a spookily atmospheric, retro-sounding collaboration with 'Mercy' producer Steve Booker. "Hide me from the glitter," Alesha sings, casting her doubts on the celebrity lifestyle.

  • By the way, if you're intrigued by the new Alesha Dixon album, you can listen to a few clips on her MySpace page.
