More good news for Girls Aloud

Published Tuesday, Nov 4 2008, 12:47 GMT | By Nick Levine | 14 comments
In chart terms at least, Girls Aloud continue to bask in the warm glow of an Indian Summer. They recently topped the singles chart with 'The Promise' - and they'd be still be there if the X Factor charity single hadn't got in the way - and now they could reach number one again.

The group's latest album, Out of Control, is in pole position in today's midweek charts - ahead of the current chart-topper, Pink's Funhouse, and the week's other big new release, Razorlight's Slipway Fires. At present, it's opened up a lead that's comfortable but not unassailable.

If Out of Control does hold on until Sunday, it will be the first time Girls Aloud have made number one with a studio album. Their greatest hits set, The Sound of Girls Aloud, reached the top in 2006, but their previous best with a "normal" LP was a #2 peak for Sound of the Underground in 2003. Even Nicola's got to crack a smile if they beat it, right?

Do you think Girls Aloud will top the albums chart? Do they deserve to? Use the space below to have your say.
