yeah i agree that her vocals are not as good as they were but u cant expect them to be after singing at her level for 20 years its obvious her voice is going to become weakeri stil think tht she stil has a great voice

i like Maria, back in her day she belted out her voice out but now she isn't liek that! this song has no highs and alot of lows! the vocals are good but not the mariah who sang "without You" or "Hero" and "Emotions" she has gone down to the bottom!

Why do people who like Mariah Carey bang on about 18 #1s.. this is a UK site, not American! On the UK charts Mariah has only had one number 1 single, 2 if you include the Westlife duet (which only got to number 1 because Westlife were/are so popular). And yes, she did mime on Saturday. For someone whose saving grace is her amazing vocals, it was pretty laughable.

nope u cant compare mariah carey and madonna coz i agree mariah outshines madonna and any other artist out today for that matter, no one can deny the fact that she is an absolute superstar n to have 18 number ones is exceptional, and to go with tht the unvbelievable vocals that she posesses. mariah all day longggggggggggggg

Mariah clearly mimed her record on the X-Factor. If you listen to the production....it was perfect. She uses the microphone to hide her mouth, and there was no infliction in her voice or features to obtain the notes. The camera remianed pretty fixed to assist with the illusion. If you look at her second performance which was 'Live' she takes so much care in her singing , doesn't hide her mouth behind the 'mic', and the camera angles vary. The production is much more raw, and she manages fine. She couldn't risk making a mistake with her new single as she needs to promote and sell it....and she wouldn't have been as confident with all the words yet. Most artists do the same....and this performance wasn't billed as 'Live' so no deception to the public.

Exactly Emma, the 'most successful' shouldn't mean that they've sold the most, it depends on an individual's definition of 'success' - so for them to say she is the most successful female artist in the world, is a moot point. To me, the fact that Madonna is more well known, has been around longer, and consistently sells more worldwide with her singles, albums and tours (but maybe not movies, LOL) means she is the more successful artist. That's just my opinion though and I fully understand that people have different ideas about what makes someone successful. And yes, Mariah has had 18 #1s in AMERICA.. whereas Madonna has only had 12. But I'll bet your bottom dollar that if you added up the total number ones across every country of the world Madonna would be far ahead.

successful doesnt neccesserily mean "sold the most" however she is the only female to have 18 #1s and has overtaken elvis presley, which is a massive achievement in itself

Mel: Yes it was a lie in my book - but "success" is such an abstract term that they can get away with it. Madonna has sold more than Mariah, is more popular, and has more hit singles in far more countries than Mariah does.

madonna mariah? how can you compare the two. it's doesn't matter how many records you've sold it's about quality madonna is not s only is she miserable and ugly but is an awful person inside too who willl end up alone if she does not change her ways. on the other, hand mariah is a diva but nowhere near horrible or awful is beautiful and nice and has oustanding talent that no critic, madoona fan or whoever can take away from her. Mriah's best music was in 2005, not the 90's as in 2005 she had her most sucess then. madonna has most of her success in the uk while mariah has it worldwide. maybe she makes better music.......

i totally agree with simons comment of mariah carey being the biggest star in the world i cnt believe people have the cheek to sit there and criticise such a talented an succesful artist like mariah carey, how can you say she is rubbish after the career that shes had it really is beyond me them facts at the begginin just sed it all really, and shes stil goin today picking up number ones with her voice for me stil being really good n how can madonna b bigger if she has had less success??? and as for her voice its nuffin ive ever herd it is simply unbeatable i certainly wudnt mnd havin a voice like hers, or the success that she has had i think its time people strted giving her the praise that she deserves coz no other female artist has had her success and 18 number ones is absolutly brilliant and the rest of the facts tht wer shown think they need to b read again until people understand just how good them facts were and as for her vocals last nite they were awseome i dno wot people wer listenin 2 i really dnt.

I like Mariah, and I like her new song.. but when they said she was the "biggest female artist in the world" on X-Factor I rolled my eyes. Mariah, you're not Madonna.

totally agree, and happy someone actually has the guts to say it aloud. Mariah was a huge star with a fantastic voice but listening to her last night was a sad experience; she would not have made it through had she been a contestant.

I thought she did herself a lot of good last night. She often lipsynchs in Europe on promotional TV moments (not in concerts) due to the vocal rest she needs before a live performance. She is still the best in the game. I Stay In Love was a good performance but this album is not getting the same hype from the media that Emancipation of Mimi did because there is no hit as big as We Belong Together on it.
