B-side of the Week: Girls Aloud's Megamix

 |  By  |  8 comments
First appearing as the flipside to vinyl singles, B-sides have come to be cherished by dedicated fans of any pop group. However, these hidden gems are often overlooked by other music lovers, especially in the era of track-by-track downloads. In the past some B-sides have actually gone on to become hits in their own right - think Gloria Gaynor's 'I Will Survive', Rod Stewart's 'Maggie May', 911's 'Bodyshakin'...

To break in the new year of music, we've decided to launch our 'B-side of the Week' feature. Each Saturday we'll be examining an obscure track that one of our favourite acts will be sticking on their CD single/including as part of their iTunes "bundle" the following Monday. They may be minor masterpieces, they may be pretty horrendous, but either way we'll be giving them a listen.

To get things rolling, we've managed to nab the B-side to Girls Aloud's new single 'The Loving Kind'. It's called the 'Girls On 45 Megamix' and it's a sizzling, club-friendly celebration of the group's back catalogue. Jewels & Stone are on knob-twiddling duties here, mixing together 12 of the group's hits with the intro and outro from the 'Stars on 45' medleys of the 1970s. At seven-and-a-half-minutes long, it's quite a treat.

The full version is available on 'The Loving Kind' CD single, out January 12, but here's a 30-second taster to whet your appetites:
