Brits 2009: Live blog

20.08: U2 open the show with new single 'Get On Your Boots'. Not their best tune is it?

20.09 Kylie performs a snippet of 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' with Corden and Horne. Mat Horne looks worryingly OK in a dress.

20.12 As DS predicted, Duffy wins the British Female prize. Duffy's acceptance patter? "It's a good job my mum didn't have a boy."

20.13 James Corden says he looks like a "trucker tranny" in his red PVC dress. Um... well... err... who are we to disagree?

20.15 Lionel Ritchie presents the International Female prize to Katy Perry. Sadly she doesn't try to plant a big old smacker on Kylie.

20.18 Are Girls Aloud naked behind those giant pink feathers?

20.19 No.

20.20 Sarah Harding really goes for it on the "Here I aaaaaam...." line.

20.21 Nice performance. Could 'The Promise' win British Single later on?

20.22 Fearne Cotton refers to the winner of the British Female prize as "Duffy McDuffster".

20.29 Corden and Horne have changed into suits. Oh well.

20.31 Scouting For Girls win the British Breakthrough Act prize... only joking, it's two in a row for Duffy McDuffster!

20.32 Katie from Ting Tings doesn't look best pleased.

20.34 Rose petals fall on Coldplay as they perform 'Viva La Vida'. Aww bless!

20.37 Jamie Oliver "loves a bit of Duffy" apparently.

20.38 Fearne Cotton plugs the British Single vote again. Get dialling folks!

20.43 Kylie's legs look nice.

20.44 As does Natalie Imbruglia.

20.45 PICK UP YOUR JAWS FROM THE FLOOR! Kings of Leon win the International Group gong.

20.46 Mat Horne cracks a Craig David joke. A bit 2000, don't you think?

20.48 Paul Weller wins the British Male prize. A very giggly Adele presents his gong to him in a pre-recorded video.

20.50 Duffy is singing 'Warwick Avenue' rather than 'Mercy'. Interesting.

20.52 She didn't want the train to goooooooooo, you know.

20.54 Natalie Imbruglia says "amazing" before Fearne Cotton manages to slip it in. Who says miracles never happen?

20.59 Mat Horne's blue shoes... Hmm.

21.00 And the International Album trophy goes to... Kings of Leon.

21.02 Remember the award is for music, not for witty and entertaining acceptance speeches.

21.05 Take That look sexy in specs!

21.06 Trying to make the 'Greatest Day' V-sign and type at the same time. Not very easy.

21.08 Jenny Frost? Sadie Frost? No, it's Nick Frost!

21.10 Shock of the night so far... Iron Maiden win British Live Act. Never mind Scouting For Girls fans, there's always the British Single prize.

21.12 The Hoff seems to know which country he's in. It's a start...

21.14 Elbow add the British Group gong to their Mercury Prize. Girls Aloud's duck remains unbroken.

21.15 Has The Hoff ever heard of Elbow? If only the Stones had won!

21.16 Voting for British Single has now closed!

21.17 Same Difference get a mention from James Corden. Respect.

21.18 "Ooooooohaaaahwoooaaaah oooohaawooooooaaah..."

21.20 The Hoff lears at Fearne Cotton. TV gold.

21.21 The Hoff offers to go and see Elbow at Wembley. Dave, we hate to break it to you, but...

21.25 Kylie's back!

21.26 Another dodgy Craig David joke.

21.27 Florence & The Machine collects her? their? Critics' Choice gong. Don't tell anyone, but we like Little Boots better.

21.28 Gok Wan presenting the International Male prize? Only at the Brits.

21.30 Kanye West beats Jay-Z to the International Male award. His video acceptance is, well, very Kanye.

21.31 'Shut Up And Let Me Go' segues into 'American Boy'. The jury's still out.

21.33 And now it's 'That's Not My Name'!

21.34 Nah, they call you Estelle.

21.35 Do you think When Estelle Met The Ting Tings worked?

21.36 Kylie's best dress yet, no doubt about it.

21.37 Do you want to see Alan Carr naked?

21.38 Alan Carr namechecks Diana Vickers.

21.38 AT BLOODY LAST!

21.39 Don't want to get too sentimental about things, but this really warms the cockles doesn't it?

21.40 So, Sarah Harding's been at the sambuca again...

21.41 EUGH! Tom Jones reckons he's been kissing Girls Aloud.

21.42 It's a hat-trick for Duffy!

21.44 It's five minutes 'til PSB + GaGa + Brandon Flowers.

21.48 Brandon Flowers struts onstage to give Pet Shop Boys their award and quotes 'Left To My Own Devices'.

21.49 We would have chosen Pet Shop Boys too.

21.50 Louis Walsh hearts Pet Shop Boys!

21.52 Neil Tennant in a bowler hat, Chris Lowe in a pink wig... the Brits are complete.

21.53 "DON'T HAVE TO BE..."

21.55 This escalator thing's all quite clever.

21.56 GAGA ALERT!

21.57 Gone already?

21.58 Brandon's here for 'It's A Sin'. And looking fit we have to say.

22.00 The Lady's back.

22.01 Class.

22.11 Last update of the night. Could someone please email when the PSB performance gets uploaded to YouTube tomorrow?

Kylie was stunning and fantastic, the rest of it was a load of rubbish. People winning awards who haven't done anything in the last 5 years. GA winning anything and their appalling live rendition of 'The Promise' Cheryl love, YOU CAN'T SING!!! talk about out of tune and BAAAAAD!!!!! Loved the PSB but Lady gaga was awful and appeared to be dressed like a china teapot, silly cow!!! U2 will another terrible record, please retire lads, you lost your credibility a long time ago. Iron Maiden winning an award, good job they do sell out stadiums because they haven't sold any records for the last 20 years. Give them an award before the cark it. All in all, very boring and tired.

excellent blog, think this blogger should replace Fearne at the Brits and chat with Sarah Harding
Andrew, Belfast, on February 19th, 2009
LOL at anyone who has never heard of Iron Maiden. They've only sold around 70 million albums, and as they said in their acceptance speech, have been selling out venues (even STADIUMS!) for 20 odd years. It's about time they, and metal in general, was recognised by the Brit Awards!
Anne, London, on February 19th, 2009
they did not mime if u noticed they even changed 'today' to 'tonite'
Lissa, Walsall, on February 19th, 2009
Oooh and Take That mimed. Ridiculous...

The Ting Tings and Duffy were the best performance of the night! And i agree, Brandon Flowers looked very nice... I'm still annoyed Coldplay didn't win a thing. Seems America can recognise them but their own country can't. And Duffy/Girls Aloud Best Single? Yeah right...
Katie, Dublin, on February 19th, 2009
The Ting Tings & Estelle was the best moment of the night! The Ting Tings should've won Best Breakthrough! x
Nick, London, on February 19th, 2009
well done to the fantastic girls aloud for finally shutting their critics up and winning their first brit award, long overdue mind but the promise has to be one of the best singles of their career. should have won best group instead of elbow anybody know who they are????

Ollie, London, on February 18th, 2009
I have watched the BRIT's every year since 1995, this year was quite good. Nothing brilliant, how people like Adele, The Killers and Coldplay missed out on wins is beyond me. I would like to have seen more GaGa in the amazing PSB finale. Estelle and The Tings Tings was rubbish, sorry, I love TTT but that duet just did not work! Kylie looked great, producers obviously happy this evening with the presenters, the three were nice and clear, different to the last two years. How GA won best single? This evening in one word for me, blah... shame really, there could have been so much potential.
Sophie, Herts, on February 18th, 2009
I love Kings Of Leon!! Lolly i'm 16, who are Elbow lol? I know most things about PSB but not about Elbow!
Martin, London, on February 18th, 2009
Top 5 performances: (1) Girls Aloud, (2) Kings of Leon, (3) Pet Shop Boys, (4) Coldplay, (5) Take That
Jordon, UK, on February 18th, 2009
GaGa and Brandon were not on stage for anywhere near as long as they should have been.
Andrew, Cardiff, on February 18th, 2009
your probably right lolly, the ignorance towards decent music nowadays is frightening
Paul, Midlands, on February 18th, 2009
Brandon.....worth waiting for! Lovely!
Fatima, Surbiton, on February 18th, 2009
Good though she is, I bet Duffy never wins another Brit award (after this year). After all, we've already forgotten Mika.
Sean, Uckfield, on February 18th, 2009
Sarah Harding drunk has made my evening.
CheekTV, youtube, on February 18th, 2009

Lolly, forums, on February 18th, 2009
Andrew, Cardiff, I'm sorry, I've heard of Iron Maiden because they're legendary, but I don't know many other 15 year odls who've heard of Elbow :|
Martin, London, on February 18th, 2009
Sarah with that duck was the greatest moment in Brits history.
