The Saturdays' new B-side!
Published Thursday, Jun 18 2009, 11:43 BST | By David Balls | 18 comments
What are the main similarities between The Saturdays and their label mates Girls Aloud? Well, they've both got a penchant for electropop stompers and regularly fill column inches with their showbiz shenanigans, but that's not where it ends. While many acts have given up on physical singles and B-sides altogether, both GA and The Sats pretty much guarantee a brand new track with every single they release.
Their latest flipside is called 'Unofficial' and it's the group's first foray into writing their own material. Is it any good? Well, if you're expecting a floor-filling extravaganza in the vein of previous B-side 'Golden Rules', you may be left disappointed, but it's certainly worth a spin.
Sounding like a not-too-distant cousin of 'Issues', 'Unofficial' is an R&B-tinged midtempo pop tune about an unsatisfying relationship. Featuring tumbling melodies par excellence, lots of cooing and the rhyming of "unofficial" with "artificial", it's as predictable as Peter Andre flashing his pecs in his next music video, but thoroughly pleasant with it. The full version is available on the 'Work' CD single, out June 29, but here's a 60-second clip to whet your appetite:
What do you think of 'Unofficial'? Should The Saturdays get more involved in the songwriting process from now on? Use the space below to leave your comments.

I like it. Really like it. It's very, very R&B; something akin to an early Destiny's Child track and quite Ne-Yo-esque IMO. A big departure from most of their other songs, but a good one!

Its got a sound of pcd in the background, i cant think of what song, i think maybe "i hate this part"? i dont think its too good tbh, the saturdays are good for good catchy songs this doesnt have the same sound that they usually have. Not one of their best, im sorry. Still love the girls tho :)
