Update: Michael Jackson, Cascada, Jordin Sparks

Published Friday, Jul 3 2009, 12:00 BST | By Nick Levine | 16 comments
Right at the stroke of noon, here's the lowdown from Friday's midweeks.

  • 'Man In The Mirror' is still holding off 'Evacuate The Dancefloor' and 'Bulletproof' at the top.

  • Elsewhere, however, the MJ effect seems to be waning. 'I Want You Back' has slipped out of the top 40, while the 13 Jacko classics that remain are generally a couple of places down on Wednesday.

  • Jordin Sparks's 'Battlefield' has returned to the top 20.

  • The Saturdays' 'Work' has finally found some upward momentum and is now a few places outside the top 20.

  • 'I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)', the US smash from rapper Pitbull, is comfortably inside the top 40, but there's no sign of Black Eyed Peas' 'I Gotta Feeling' yet.

  • It's still looking good for La Roux over on the albums chart.

  • So, MJ or Cascada for number this Sunday - what do you reckon?

no affence but a week ago i thought, omg mj is dead but his music will never die.. well, i guess i was wrong, sorry mj fans but i am now officially sick of mj songs and even though im not really struck on that cascada tune, i would rather see that go to #1 on sunday instead.. also, lady gaga for #1 next weekend, i love her & paparazzi is the best song i've heard in quite a while.. if anything, paparazzi is the only song that truly deserves number 1.

Cascada for #1 It is the best tune of 2009. As much as I want MJ's 'Man In The Mirror' to be #1, I think Cascada deserve that number one spot!

i hope its cascada. 'evacuate the dancefloor' is number 1 on itunes and its also available on cd. man in the mirror is only available on download and its number 4 on itunes. c'mon cascada you can do it!

If Michael Jackson is number one (no disrespect) then its a fix, Cascada and La Roux have downloads AND CDS sales with them...MJ isnt even in the top 3 on iTunes now so yeah UK Singles Chart is fixed for this week. Good luck to Cascada though, best song in ages ;)

Alex - bit harsh! Sparks' 'Battlefield' is brilliant! It's underperforming and I doubt she will ever truly break the UK market but she's got a brilliant voice and the single is amazing! Agree with you on the album cover art though...

Cascade is the biggest pile of rubbish I have heard in a long while. That woman’s vocals are an insult to the senses, someone lock her up and hand the key to Lady Gaga, the act she has blatantly scavenged from. Maybe if the year was 2001 and S club 7’s ‘Don’t Stop Movin’ never existed then maybe I would feel differently but that is not the case so blondie can do one. La Roux deserve all their success, although the lead singer needs to watch her mouth, slagging off the establishment when she is blatantly part of the establishment is not going to win her prizes but the music and image is good. Jordin Sparks, your coat is on the hanger to the left, off you go, your time is up! The war has been won and it ain't by her! Her new album, with its lifeless cover art, will sink like a stone.

i love mj's music and i fully understand why he's number one...but i hope it does back out gracefully and let new artists have their moment. in an ideal world... bulletproof, paparazzi and battlefield should be fighting for top with cascada + sophie EB finishing off the top 5.
Nick Callaghan, Manchester, on July 3rd, 2009
awwww WHAT ABOUT SOPHIE EB AND THE FREEMASONS??!!
James, Watford, on July 3rd, 2009
wow, i'm sure it's going to be extremely close, i know Man in the Mirror has slipped a bit on the iTunes top 100 but i'm sure it's getting many cd sales as well to help it along. pleased for La Roux as well in the album chart.
Ace, London, on July 3rd, 2009
    Saturdays for #1!! lol
Nick, Swindon, on July 3rd, 2009
What about Paparazzi by Lady GaGa? What's going on with that? And I thought Bulletproof was already number one? :S
