Sugababes get sexy RIGHT NOW!

Published Wednesday, Jul 8 2009, 12:25 BST | By Nick Levine and David Balls | 49 comments
Sugababes went mellow and retro on their last album, even going so far as to impose something called an "electropop ban", but they're now ready to hit the dancefloor again. 'Get Sexy', which premiered on Radio 1 yesterday afternoon, is probably their most danceable single since 'Red Dress'.

Produced by little-known knob-twiddling duo The Smeezingtons, who've apparently been sharing studio time with Alexandra Burke recently, it's an electro-R&B club banger with a hint of the 'Boom Boom Pow' to it and a neat nod to Right Said Fred in the lyrics: "I'm too sexy in this club, too sexy in this club, so sexy it hurts."

The best bit? The onslaught of techno synths that heralds the beginning of the brilliant, siren-packed chorus. Truth be told, the rest of the track doesn't quite live up to that chorus, but the overall impression is of Sugababes successfully repositioning themselves at the hip, urban end of modern pop. For a group now in its tenth year as a chart act, that's no mean feat.

What do you think of 'Get Sexy'? Do you approve of Sugababes' new direction? Use the space below to have your say.

I agree with James from London. This song, catchy as it may be to some, is a rip off; and they diden't even try to conceal it! and if anyone can not hear that the main b line behind the chorus is also a twisted and mediocre rip off from the Timberland' 'hit that featured kerri hilson 'the way i am'; as well as noticing that, (as james already pointed out)- the lyrical line is coming straight from 'right said fred' as well as other blatent copies within the rest of the track from other songs, then they are completely off their rocket. People need to stop copying others in the industry and do something original for once- instead of riding off the work of others. If they haven't credited the original writers then i hope that that they do get sued. But oh yeah- silly me, i forgot that half of these so called performers and industry bigwigs don't know what originality is even if it stared and did a dance infront of their faces, so should i even entertain the notion that they would attempt to write anything from scratch. Regardless and as per usual, this song will more than likely still do very well.

This song is terrible. Whoever wrote the lyrics should get sued as they "borrowed" from so many other songs... "shut up and let me" - ting tings "you can look but you can't touch" - a song by poison and very similar to "Beep" by PCD similarities to "love in the club" by Usher but worst of all is "Cause I'm too sexy in this club, too sexy in this club, So sexy it hurts" - a blatant ripoff of Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy" without the campness.

I like it. The Sugababes have a quite diverse sound. It's great to see Amelle leading and she carries the song. I don't think they have ripped off anyone. I will definately buy it.

This song is rubbish, the big come back is a let down so far. Bring back the old stuff its what they are best at.

I Really like this song and unlike other girlbands such as Girls Aloud and the pussycat dolls the sugababes are always changing and find something different to bring to there music. Ive been a fan for ages even through the 'Girls' era, They are really back ;)

I Do Like The Song, I Think It Is A Good Direction For The Girls, Especially To Break Into The American Market. But I Know Many People Dont like It, But What You Have To Think Is This album and single will break the girls into the american market, once they have done that and are established over the pond, they can go back to the babes which we all know and love, with the sounds of push the button, about you now, and freak like me! I Think any sound the Babes do they pull it off, So I take my hat off to you girls!

I'm disappointed (being a fan) as this wasnt the comeback I imagined but its still a decent single despite the shock of them sampling right said fred. a little conformist to the music atm tho much prefer the style with mutya in the band
Oliver, Newcastle, on July 12th, 2009
Girls Aloud are absolute pants and will never live up to the Sugababes' standards.

I think this song is brilliant and a breath of fresh air compared to recent tracks which seem to just 'plod' along the chart. this is masssive and inspiring, different, yet interesting and a great asset to the Sugababes singles collection. We should be proud that the UK has a grup who can still pull out the singles after 10 years at the top - this no letdown ; if anything a big jump forward in terms of sugababes discography and it still has that edgy sound that sugababes should be commended to have. you wouldn't see saturdays or girls aloud singing this terrific track.

Um... it's crap

Total, utter rubbish with a sound so dated & stolen from everybody else, Sugababes have once again shown they are way past their prime. People are bored of them and have been for a few years now, its about time they gave up the ghost because gone are the brilliant days with Mutya Buena. Instead we are left with a girl group flogging a dead horse with no steam or ideas of their own. 1 out of 10.

Load of rubbish! It ain't no "Hole In The Head"!

i really do like it... a lot! im sick of people wanting their songs to sound like the old ones, if they did youd just end up complaining that all their songs sound the same! i think a new direction is just what they need, number one for sure, cant wait for the album :-D
One&Only X, on July 11th, 2009
I love this song. So glad they are back. GA are crap at least the 'babes can sing unlike them. Sugababes will be Britains #1 girl group. I like their new direction they are going. I can't wait for the album and what RedOne has produced for them. Anyway, this song will be their 8th number one single.

Wicked song, it's very 'the sound of today' which is put Sugababes back ontop around the globe since Push The Button. I only hope their album is as strong :D
J Suffolk, on July 11th, 2009
It is garbage, come on sugababes wheres the likes of push the button, round round, too lost in you and the like this is just rubbish, go back to what you do best good old pop music its not a crime! dont copy the rubbish of black eye peas!
Daniel, Birmingham, on July 11th, 2009
Heidi's parts need to be bigger still as she sounds by far the best in this song, more Heidi people
Jordan, on July 11th, 2009
hated it at first. but like boom boom pow after a few listens it gets stuck in your head and you end up loving it, hope this does well for them because i love sugababes and they need some success.
Faizan, Birmingham, on July 10th, 2009
LOVE IT! It is so synth n' pop and really catchy! I think the Sugababes are defo going to Number One after the flop with Catfights & Spotlights. Shame about the new logo though.
