First listen: Michael Jackson's 'This Is It'

"This is it, here I stand, I'm the light of the world, I feel grand." It's a fitting opening line for what is (hopefully) a dignified last hurrah for one of the greatest musicians of all time. Earlier today, Michael Jackson's official website released the late singer's first posthumous single, which conveniently shares its title with his abandoned O2 concert series and upcoming documentary movie.

Suitably grand, without ever slipping into 'Heal The World'-style mawkishness, the impressive vocals and romantic lyrics ("Falling in love wasn't my plan, I never thought that I would be your lover") support the rumours that this could be an offcut from his 1991 album Dangerous. Meanwhile, the classic Jacko finger-snaps, hushed backing vocals from his brothers and delicate string intro are a timely reminder of the star's abilities as a pop craftsman.

We can't deny feeling a hint of disappointment that it's not a banging 'Billie Jean'/'Black Or White''/'Beat It'-style pop stomper, but considering the circus that's overshadowed Jackson's passing, we'll accept this as a seemly and surprisingly decent last chapter for the King of Pop.
