Playlist: 10 tracks you need to hear

By and Lewis Corner
Listen to our ten favourite tracks this week, including Marina and the Diamonds, Evanescence, Drake and David Guetta.

Marina and the Diamonds: 'Fear & Loathing'
Welsh singer-songwriter Marina Diamandis released this buzz track last week - the first of two introductory songs to the intriguingly-titled 'Electra Heart'. She may be sketchy on the details for now, but the haunting melodies and big vocals of 'Fear & Loathing' suggest a stepping up for her sophomore album.

David Guetta ft. Sia: 'Titanium'
Released to heighten the buzz of his new album Nothing But The Beat, 'Titanium' is mash-up of soft-guitar verses and club-heavy choruses that shows the French DJ can work with instruments other than his trusty MacBook Pro.

Evanescence: 'What You Want'
The lead single from their forthcoming self-titled album, 'What You Want' is a hefty slab of dramatic rock which includes the band's trademark electric guitars with melodic choruses.

Drake: 'Headlines'
Serving as the trailer single for his second album Take Care, the Young Money graduate raps about the ups and downs of his celebrity lifestyle over laid-back beats and hypnotic synths.

Joe Goddard: 'Gabriel'
The man responsible for Hot Chip's success has released his first solo material in 18 months in the form of 'Gabriel', a club-friendly electronic number that infuses gospel with prolific house beats for a trippy dancefloor experience.

One Direction: 'What Makes You Beautiful'
Finishing third on the biggest singing competition in the UK seems to have its perks; namely hooking up with Britney Spears collaborator Savan Kotecha for your debut single. One Direction's pop-rock anthem aimed at all of their swooning female fans lands on September 11.

Wolfgang Gartner ft. will.i.am: 'Forever'
Hailed as the new David Guetta, Grammy-nominated Wolfgang Gartner - or Joey Youngman to his mum - celebrates his signing to Ministry of Sound with the release of will.i.am hookup 'Forever'. Watch the official music video below:

Wynter Gordon: 'In The Morning'
Still without a UK release date for her debut album With The Music I Die, US singer Wynter Gordon, whose CV includes collabs with The Freemasons and David Guetta, would be a fool not to get it out soon with a song like this lurking on it.

The Kixx: 'Standing Where You Left Me'
As boyband fever continues to dominate the charts, electro-pop newcomers The Kixx are also looking to get in on the action with pacey pop number 'Standing Where You Left Me'. The track features on their EP of the same name, which is out on September 4.

Gotye: 'Somebody That I Used To Know'
Australian multi-instrumentalist Gotye has topped the ARIA charts this week with his latest single, which features the vocals of rising New Zealand singer Kimbra. Following the success of his award-winning LP Like Drawing Blood, it won't be long before he bothers our balmier shores.
