You've been described as No Doubt with a Rihanna-esque frontwoman; is that accurate?
Manda: "It's quite close! No Doubt are a huge inspiration to us and we love Rihanna. If No Doubt and the Black Eyed Peas had a baby, it would be Cover Drive."
What would that baby sound like?
Manda: "We like to call it 'cari-pop' music - a mixture of reggae, ska, dance and pop. It's feel good and fresh."
T-Ray: "Put it into a blender and pour over some ice, add some coconut and an umbrella and you have it!"
Describe your debut single 'Lick Ya Down'.
Manda: "'Lick Ya Down' is a phrase from Barbados which contrary to popular belief in England is not naughty - It means 'knock ya down'! We had to add in an explanation at the beginning of the video of what it means as everyone thought it was something else. There's a lot of fun, attitude and energy in there."
We can hear another song at the end of the music video; what is it?
Manda: "Our song 'Twilight', which is our next single. You can hear a snippet of it on our mixtape which is on our website. The full version will be included on our album."
Have you heard the song on the radio yet?
Manda: "It just went to radio, which feels amazing! We were in a taxi and I started shaking my head like a crazy person and slamming the side of the door. I went nuts for it!"
Who are you working with on your debut album?
Jamar: "We've worked with Steve Mac, Future Cut, JR Rotem and loads of others - there are so many!"
Manda: "We've been around the whole world of the music industry. We've been teaching them our cari-pop sound but they've taught us a lot too."
You recently opened a gig for Rihanna; were you nervous?
Manda: "We opened for her homecoming concert and we only found out a week before the show that we were performing at it. When we got the email saying she had approved us we freaked out! We only had two days of rehearsals and it was out first gig in front of 25,000 people. We really want to thank Rihanna for that opportunity."
Did she pass on any advice?
Manda: "We were all starstruck - she passed her awesomeness on to us! She's so beautiful, and told us it was her cousin who introduced us to her. She said she was proud that we were doing our thing."
Where do you hope to be a year from now?
Manda: "We'll hopefully be crossing over to the US to release our single there, then it's world domination. Hopefully we'll be touring too and spreading our music across the world."
Cover Drive release 'Lick Ya Down' on August 28. You can listen to their mixtape at www.wearecoverdrive.com
