First came the charity reissue of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' backed with 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives'. Then came the posthumous Made In Heaven, Queen's last album featuring Mercury.
The band played gigs with special guest singers as Queen +, before Paul Rodgers of Free joined the group and they became Queen + Paul Rodgers.
The theory was that they couldn't just be called "Queen", because, well, nobody could replace Freddie. Well, now it seems that not only is Mercury replaceable, but so are the rest of the band.
Drummer Roger Taylor revealed this week that he will be assembling an official tribute group called "The Queen Extravaganza".
"We're producing our own show using our own footage and production values to make a show because, let's face it, we're getting a little long in the tooth," he explained.
"There are an awful lot of tribute bands, some of them good, some of them not good. And we put together something that we felt was purely extraordinary."
Is this a great way for Queen's music to live on as a live proposition for years to come? Or is it a sad reality TV-inspired exploitation of a band name that has already been stripped of all dignity? Let us know your thoughts.
