Ones to watch: Charlene Soraia

You may not be familiar with her name yet, but you'll have no doubt heard Charlene Soraia's heart-tugging rendition of The Calling's 'Wherever You Will Go' on the Twinings TV ads.

On further investigation, it turns out that she's far more than a one-hit wonder; so we at Digital Spy went straight to the source to find out more about the rising star. Here's what we managed to find out:

She is 22 years old and was born in Sydenham, south east London.

She is signed to indie label Peacefrog Records, home of José González and Novelle Vague.

She is influenced by '60s psychedelia, jazz music and prog rockers Robert Fripp (King Crimson) and David Gilmour.

Her debut album Moonchild was produced by Oasis hitmaker Paul Stacey, and due to "overwhelming demand" has had its release brought forward to November 21.

Her debut album is about, she says, "pretty much the story of everything up until I was 19".

She's had plenty of experience on the live circuit, playing her first open mic night when she was just 8 (eight!) years old.

She's another BRIT School graduate, but insists she is nothing like Adele or Kate Nash. That said, she admits "there have definitely been people to come through there like Imogen Heap and Jamie Woon that I feel some connection to".

She suffers from Cyclothymia, which she describes as "a less severe form of Bipolar Disorder. I wrote [a song on the LP called] 'Bipolar' and it came out really upbeat and funny despite the fact I was actually in pieces."

She thinks anyone who describes her music as "folk" is "lazy".

She already has enough solid material for her next album, admitting: "I can't seem to sit still."
