Playlist: 10 tracks you need to hear

 |  By and Robert Copsey  |  9 comments
Listen to ten of our favourite new songs below, including Green Day, Kelly Clarkson, Plan B and Taylor Swift.

Conor Maynard ft. Ne-Yo: 'Turn Around' (out now)
The British YouTube sensation teams up with his mentor for his third single. Steady club beats, Italo piano riffs and a strong melody makes this Conor's most poppiest effort to date. LC

Arlissa vs. Nas: 'Hard To Love Somebody' (out September 30)
As far as introductions go, Arlissa has pulled a blinder. The Londoner has teamed up with US rap royalty Nas for her first single. It's even more impressive when you learn that it's only the hip-hop star's second British collaboration ever, with the first being Amy Winehouse. LC

Muse: 'Unsustainable' (out September 17)
Muse merge a cinematic orchestral composition with hard rock guitar riffs, fuzzy dubstep reverb and Matt Bellamy's ad-libbing to create one of their most dramatic and apocalyptic tracks to date. The instrumental cut will feature on their upcoming album The 2nd Law. LC

Naughty Boy ft. Emeli Sandé: 'Wonder' (out September 30)
Emeli Sandé returns the favour to producer Naughty Boy, who helped produced the bulk of her debut album Our Version of Events. In fact, with its choral beats and fist-clenching lyrics, 'Wonder' would have slotted in rather nicely amongst her own ballad-heavy collection. RC

Taylor Swift: 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together' (release date tbc)
We'll admit we were surprised when we discovered the once staunchly country-pop singer Taylor Swift had decided to team up with Max Martin for her new single - the mastermind behind hits for Pink, Britney and Katy Perry. That was, of course, until we heard the results, which makes for her most global-friendly tune in years. RC

Plan B: 'Deepest Shame' (out now)
By now you'll have realised that Plan B's latest album iLL Manors is a lot tougher than its Radio 2-friendly predecessor. However, the one track that could have slotted on Strickland Banks is his latest single 'Deepest Shame'. A soulful chorus, socially-aware rapping and a heartbreaking, but compelling story make it some of Ben Drew's finest work. LC

Green Day: 'Kill The DJ' (out now)
Don't be fooled by the title, this song is far from violent. In fact, it's Green Day's most radio-friendly, funky and melodic cut since their American Idiot era. The single will be included on Uno!, which is one of three (three!!) new albums we'll get from them over the next few months. LC

The Other Tribe: 'Skirts' (release date tbc)
Bristol mob The Other Tribe have already been given the nod by legendary DJ Pete Tong, as well as picking up all manner of accolades in recent months. Their new track 'Skirts' is a rough blend of indie and electronica with bagfuls of nostalgia that keeps us longing for the summer to continue. RC

Kelly Clarkson: 'Get Up (A Cowboy's Anthem)' (out now)
Clarkson was reportedly so excited to be asked to write a song for the NFL that she penned the track that same evening. After listening to the lyrics, we have no reason to question her, but we defy anyone who isn't bounding about and trying their hand at line dancing before the song's fadeout. RC

Starsmith: 'Zero' (out now)
It's been a fair while since we heard anything from singer-songwriter-DJ Starsmith, so we'll take his new track 'Zero' being available online for free as an apology. The track is an uplifting mix of thumping beats and squiggly synths that leaves us mightily intrigued as to what else he's hiding up his sleeve. RC
