Playlist: 10 tracks you need to hear

By
Listen to our ten favourite new songs below, including Tegan and Sara, Kelly Rowland, K Koke and Sky Ferreira.

Tegan and Sara: 'I Was A Fool' (release date n/a)
After more than ten years and six album releases, Tegan and Sara's arrival in the UK may be slightly overdue, but fortunately they've come armed with some of their best material yet. 'I Was A Fool' - which features on their upcoming LP Heartthrob - is a wistful slice of indie synthpop that comes with help of Kylie/Britney/Lily Allen hitmaker Greg Kurstin. RC

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis: 'Same Love' (release date tbc)
It's no secret that homosexuality is one of the biggest taboos in hip-hop music, so for Seattle-born rapper Macklemore to openly support gay rights in his latest single could be seen as a big moment. Helmed by producer Ryan Lewis and supported by vocalist Mary Lambert, the track is a smooth, soulful number full of heart. LC

Sky Ferreira: 'Everything Is Embarrassing (Twin Shadow Remix)' (out March 25)
The singer's latest track has picked up acclaim in the States as well as the UK since it premiered in October this year. For those patiently waiting for her new EP in March, this Twin Shadow mix is a neat re-swizzle that breathes new life into a song which - truth be told - we've been spinning for far too long now. RC

Kelly Rowland: 'Kisses Down Low' (release date tbc)
The Destiny's Child star continues her mission to become R&B's prime sasspot with her latest track. Packed with body-rolling beats and sensual lyrics, K-Row certainly doesn't shy away from her perfectly-honed sex appeal. LC

Robert DeLong: 'Global Concepts' (out April 4)
The rising Los Angeles singer/songwriter/producer/DJ has neatly positioned himself as the more chart-friendly answer to Diplo, but hipper than the likes of fellow dance multi-tasker Calvin Harris. If 'Global Concepts' - which heads up his debut album Just Movement - is anything to go by, he's got it spot on. RC

Little Boots: 'Superstitious Heart' (out now)
It seems Little Boots is feeling a little shy about putting out music these days, after recently putting out two new tracks on vinyl under the pseudonym 'LB'. One of said songs 'Superstitious Heart' hears her cooing over a spacious house rhythm. RC

K Koke ft. Rita Ora: 'Lay Down Your Weapons' (out March 3)
Making the transition from the underground rap scene to the mainstream charts can be a tricky process, but K Koke has teamed up with Rita Ora to make his ascent a little smoother. The pair's latest track highlights the bleak life of a jail inmate. LC

The Staves: 'Winter Trees' (out now)
The trio recently released the music video for their latest track 'Winter Trees'; a stirring piece of folk that swerves between mellow acoustics and a rousing drum section. RC

Alexis Jordan: 'Acid Rain' (release date tbc)
It's been a while since we've heard from US singer Alexis Jordan, but if this leaked track is any indication, she'll be back on our radios soon. The star has hooked up with J Cole for this uptempo club thumper, which borrows the same sample from Dutch DJ's Bingo Players' new cut 'Get Up (Rattle)'. LC

Lawson: 'Learn To Love Again (Noize Freakz Club Edit)' (out February 3)
Although Lawson have done a sterling job at reintroducing guitar-led anthems back into pop, they're not shy about having their ditties re-swizzled into sky-soaring dance bangers. Such is the case with the Noize Freakz mix of their latest single, which replaces guitar riffs with Ibiza-tailored synths. LC
