Playlist: 10 tracks you need to hear

By and Lewis Corner
Listen to ten of our favourite new songs, including Justin Timberlake, James Blake, Nina Nesbit and Lewis Watson.

Justin Timberlake: 'Mirrors' (free download with digital album pre-order)
If you thought JT's new single 'Suit & Tie' was on the long side, then eight-minute ballad 'Mirror' officially confirms he's still got a thing for extended pop ditties. Luckily, the track is a smooth R&B number that picks up near-enough exactly where 2006's FutureSex/LoveSounds left off. LC

James Blake: 'Retrograde' (release date tbc)
The singer's forthcoming album Overgrown has a lot to live up to after his self-titled, Mercury Prize-nominated debut found success across the globe. Fortunately, lead single 'Retrograde' boasts his familiar ambient-soul sound but with added confidence that was sorely missing before. RC

Ricky Hil ft. Leona Lewis: 'Fix Me' (free download)
Tommy Hilfiger's rebellious singing son Ricky has teamed up with Leona Lewis for this dark hip-hop number. Hollered beats and melancholy piano makes it a nice change of pace for Leona, proving there's more to her than shiny pop ballads. LC

Lewis Watson: 'Into The Wild' (released March 26)
Rising star Lewis Watson is already finding success in the States, where his teen-friendly folk is following in the popularity of Mumford & Sons. The British singer is currently putting the final touches to his new EP, which arrives next month. LC

Chvrches: 'Recover' (released March 25)
After gaining a following with 'The Mother We Share' back in 2012 and subsequently landing at five on BBC's Sound Of 2013 poll, Glaswegian outfit Chvrches will release their new EP next month. Lead track 'Recover' is the trio's trademark blend of epic synths with glitchy squiggles and heavy beats. LC

Feathers: 'Land Of The Innocent' (release date tbc)
It seems 2013 is fast-becoming the year of the alt-female group. Like Haim, Feathers are a band who offer something slightly to the left of mainstream pop. Flowing visuals, stomping synths and wistful vocals make them one to keep a firm eye on. LC

Jagwar Ma: 'The Throw' (out February 25)
Sydney-based duo Jono Ma and Gabriel Winterfield aka Jagwar Ma pick up from last year's single 'Come Save Me' with another slice of '60s-inspired psychedelia mashed with strobing '90s trance. RC

Nina Nesbit: 'Stay Out' (out April 8)
Having spent the back-end of 2012 getting her name out by playing gigs across the UK, Nina Nesbit returns with 'Stay Out', a pacey slice of wide-eyed folk-pop with hooks that quickly dig deep. The track heads up her new four-track EP of the same name, which is out the same week. RC

The 1975: 'Chocolate' (out March 4)
After releasing a pair of well-received EPs last year, Manchester band The 1975 are hoping to build on the hype with 'Chocolate', a summery singalong that heads up their next mini-collection 'Music For Cars' next month. RC

Hermitude: 'Hyperparadise (Flume Remix)' (release date tbc)
The Aussie duo have already found success in their homeland with 'Hyperparadise', which blends hip-hop hooks with swizzling electronica with surprisingly fresh results. RC
