The Brit Awards 2013 take place at London's O2 Arena tonight and as ever among the nominees are a mixture of predictable choices, a handful of surprises and some frustrating omissions (coughEllie Goulding and The Maccabeescough)

But who of this year's nominees most deserves to pick up a prize? Ahead of tonight's ceremony, Digital Spy gives its predictions.

Best British Male
Calvin Harris - WINNER!
Plan B
Richard Hawley
Olly Murs
Ben Howard

He wrote and produced Rihanna's 'We Found Love'. Need we say more?

Best British Female
Emeli Sandé
Paloma Faith
Bat For Lashes
Jessie Ware - WINNER!
Amy Winehouse

A tough category this year, but the brilliance of Jessie Ware's debut album Devotion means she edges this one for us.

Best British Group
Mumford and Sons
The xx
Muse
One Direction - WINNER!
Alt-J

They might not be the most (i.e the least) credible act on the list, but One Direction's global takeover across the past year is worthy of an award.

Best Live Act
Mumford and Sons
Coldplay - WINNER!
Muse
The Vaccines
The Rolling Stones

Coldplay were hands down our favourite live act out of this lot last year. The glow-in-the-dark Xylobands were a nice touch as well.

Best International Group
The Black Keys
The Script
Alabama Shakes
Fun
The Killers - WINNER!

We suspect our selection here is the least likely to win the prize, but The Killers' latest album Battle Born was a solid comeback effort.

Best International Male
Jack White
Gotye
Michael Bublé
Frank Ocean - WINNER!
Bruce Springsteen

If Bublé wins this one then we're going home.

Best International Female
Rihanna
Alicia Keys
Cat Power
Lana Del Rey
Taylor Swift - WINNER!

A tough choice, but Taylor's shift into pop-country from her old country-country sound was a bold move that has paid off in spades.

Mastercard British Album of the Year
Alt-J - An Awesome Wave
Emeli Sandé - Our Version of Events
Paloma Faith - Fall To Grace - WINNER!
Plan B - iLL Manors
Mumford and Sons - Babel

Alt-J won last year's Mercury Prize, Mumford recently picked up three Grammys, Plan B's got bagfuls of acclaim and Emeli Sandé has been near-unavoidable of late. It's about time Paloma got some real recognition for the brilliant Fall To Grace.

Best British Single
Adele - 'Skyfall'
Alex Clare - 'Too Close'
Coldplay and Rihanna - 'Princess of China'
DJ Fresh feat. Rita Ora - 'Hot Right Now'
Emeli Sandé - 'Next To Me'
Florence + the Machine - 'Spectrum'
James Arthur - 'Impossible'
Jessie J - 'Domino'
Rizzle Kicks - 'Mama Do the Hump'
Labrinth and Emeli Sandé - 'Beneath Your Beautiful'
Robbie Williams - 'Candy' - WINNER!
Olly Murs feat. Flo Rida - 'Troublemaker'
Rita Ora feat. Tine Tempah - 'RIP'
Stooshe - 'Black Heart'
Rudimental feat. John Newman - 'Feel the Love'

This award should be re-named 'Most Rabid Fanbase'.

Best British Breakthrough
Jake Bugg
Jessie Ware
Alt-J
Ben Howard
Rita Ora - WINNER!

There are some curious nominees in this category, but we think Rita deserves this one after dominating last year's singles chart.
