As you've probably heard, Amy Winehouse's trophy cabinet is looking a bit fuller this morning. Now, we hate to rain on her parade, but those shiny new gongs are going to need a lot of maintenance. Let's hope she remembers to pick up some polish next time she's in Camden Tesco's, eh?

Anyway, call us impertinent, but Amy's gong-grabbing wasn't the highlight of this year's Grammys. The best moment came, we reckon, when she got up to sing. Could the Southgate soul siren show those LA big-wigs why she deserved five of their oh-so prestigious statuettes? In the light of recent events, it seemed nigh on impossible.

Because she'd been refused a US visa, her renditions of 'You Know I'm No Good' and 'Rehab' had to be beamed in from London via satellite, but this didn't dampen her enthusiasm. Passionate, defiant and, yes, a little wobbly in places, Amy Winehouse suddenly looked like a singer again. In fact, for a brief moment - when she sang "I'd rather be at home with Blake" on the first verse of 'Rehab' - she seemed like an era-defining popstar.

For that, more than the gongs, we salute her.
